My name is Sally. In April 1999 I found myself separated from my husband and weighing 278 lbs. When visiting my physician for a check up she asked me if I would consider a Gastric Bypass procedure to deal with my weight problem, which I had been battling for fifteen years. I said “no”. A week later, I was watering my garden and crying in despair because of the loss of my marriage and, believing my weight was responsible for that loss. Just as I was thinking about my situation while watering the plants, a man came into my backyard. I had a car for sale and he wanted to talk about it. This man asked me if I was ok because he found me in tears. I don’t know why I said this but I said, “I am fat and I have lost everything I am going to lose because of it.” He stood a moment and then said, “I hope I am not over stepping a boundary here but may I share a story with you?” and I said yes. He proceeded to tell me about his Gastric Bypass surgery he had 15 years ago. He is 6’4” and weighed 325 lbs. before the surgery and, for the last 15 years, his weight has been 180 lbs. He said he gets on his knees every day and gives thanks for his new life. He never drove the car or asked about the price he just made me promise that I would call my doctor the following Monday morning. I promised, we hugged and he left. On July 2, 1999 I had my surgery. Today is September 28, 2000 and as of this morning on my scale I weigh 139 lbs. I have gone from a size 28 to a size 10. I eat anything and everything. I have not had one problem. I have my blood work done every two months because of a liver virus I have and I am in great health. My liver virus is in remission, and all my blood work is normal. I believe after trying every program, every medication, every therapy, and a lot of prayer, the only answer for me was this surgery and I have truly been blessed to have these wonderful surgeons and staff taking care of me. My life is wonderful. It is like being born again. I go to bed every night without guilt and shame. This is my story and I believe it is a miracle !!!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone in Dr. Clarey and Dr. Bruce’s office for all of your kindness, love, and support !!!! |
